Message: From wikipedia,
"The longest tournament chess game ever to be played under modern time rules was Nikolić-Arsović, Belgrade 1989, which lasted for 20 hours and 15 minutes, ending in a 269-move draw.[1][2] At the time this game was played, FIDE had modified the fifty move rule to allow 100 moves to be played without a piece being captured in a rook and bishop versus rook endgame, the situation in Nikolić - Arsović. FIDE has since rescinded that modification to the rule.
The longest decisive tournament game is Fressinet-Kosteniuk, Villandry 2007, which Kosteniuk won in 237 moves.[2] The last 116 moves were a rook and bishop versus rook ending, as in Nikolić - Arsović. Fressinet could have claimed a draw under the fifty-move rule, but didn't do so since neither player was keeping score, it being a rapid chess game. Earlier in the tournament, Korchnoi had successfully invoked the rule to claim a draw against Fressinet; the arbiters overruled Fressinet's argument that Korchnoi couldn't do so without keeping score. Fressinet, apparently wanting to be consistent, didn't try to claim a draw against Kosteniuk in the same situation.[3]" ——— Nakamura crushing competition — St. Louis' own Hikaru Nakamura is crushing the competition at the Super-Grandmaster chess tournament being held in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Hikaru has been playing often of late and has more than made up for his bad performance in Moscow at the Tal Memorial (last place) with back-to-back fantastic results! Last month, Hikaru was able to clinch clear second at the London Chess Classic, ahead of world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen. Hikaru is doing even better in Reggio after starting out with a scintillating score of five points out of six games against the world's best. After a draw against Fabiano Caruano of Italy in round seven, Hikaru had a slight misstep in round eight as he lost to Alexander Morozovich, the chess player just ...

www.xs4all.nl ——— Kaidanov's chess homework pays at Eastern Open — Kentucky GM Gregory Kaidanov is perhaps better known today as a chess teacher than a competitor. But he gave his students an object lesson on the value of doing one’s homework while winning the 39th annual Eastern Open, held last week at its traditional home at the Westin Washington hotel downtown. With 2½ points in the chess tournament’s final three rounds, including victories over fellow GMs Alexander Ivanov and Magesh Panchanathan, the affable Kaidanov posted an undefeated 6-1 result, a half-point ahead of Ivanov and New Jersey IM Dean Ippolito. A total of 170 chess players competed in the event’s four sections. Kaidanov revealed after his critical Round 5 win over Ivanov that he had worked out fully ...

Message: I am talking about move wise? ——— Chess: Turning the tide — After a strong start world chess champion Vishy Anand falls to an enterprising counterattack. The world chess champion Vishy Anand only made a 50% score at the recent London Chess Classic, suffering this early defeat to the US no 1. Anand started well, but with so many pieces on the chess board and both kings compromised, a counterattack is always possible. How did Nakamura turn the game in his favour? RB: Wow, complicated. I really have no idea. Maybe – this is clutching at straws – I can march my second h-pawn down the board to try to open up the White king position? It looks promising, but then runs into the problem of White's light-square bishop, which has an eye on h3. 1…Qe8 doesn't help, because ...

Message: Does anybody think, if you brake that 269 move record as the world longest game would that count for something, if you broke the record on this site? ——— On Chess: Is struggling Anand looking ahead? — Recent months haven’t been kind to reigning world chess champion Viswanathan Anand, who posted mediocre results in three consecutive chess tournaments. His last effort — the London Chess Classic, in which he scored six draws, one loss and just one win — was, in his words and by his standards, “a disaster” not befitting the status of world chess champion. No doubt he was distracted, in part, by preparations for an upcoming May title defense against Boris Gelfand in Moscow’s renowned Tretyakov art gallery — a venue that Anand hopes will inspire “ beautiful and artistic chess.” Based on their past performances in hundreds of games, Anand is an almost a 3-to-2 favorite to win the 12-game match. He also has ...

No, I doubt it very much. Especially if you are thinking that your game with tk29560 will go that long. On move 71, it was a mate in 11, even though you guys on currently on move 152.
It's half-interesting, but it's too easy to just drag games out here for it to have some real official meaning in the overall stats book. ——— Chess: The Year in Review — Chess again crossed paths with politics in 2011, with the most remarkable moment occurring in Tripoli, Libya, during the NATO bombing campaign against Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the World Chess Federation president, flew to Libya in June and played Qaddafi. Ilyumzhinov had known the Libyan leader since at least 2004, and there was speculation that he was on a mission to try to end the war. The game ended in a draw, but the war continued. (Tripoli fell to the rebels two months later, and Qaddafi was killed in October.) Politics also shadowed an achievement by Ehsan Ghaem Maghami, an Iranian chess grandmaster who set a record in February by playing 614 people at ...

Message: That must be deliberate. I'm surprised the 50 move rule has not been triggered yet. They must be trying to take advantage of each position to maximize the potential number of moves within the 50 move rule.
The game is so long that my computer slows down trying to run the script for the it. I even get a warning from Windows saying that if the script continues the computer may become unresponsive. I kept running it anyway, but didn't have the problem for too long. I just needed to wait a couple minutes.
That game appears to be on-going, but I don't see how it can continue for much longer.

It's on move 2167 right now. But again, completely ridiculous game. I know there was mate earlier, but going from memory, the position at move 71 was close to:
The game did not need nearly 2000 more moves, so that really takes away from it feeling like the legit winner of longest game.
I hope I'm not coming across as too arrogant. I know that some people can't mate with a rook and king vs a king. But at some point, you could just ask someone or look it up. It's one of the easier skills to learn.

Message: Well, the 3rd repeat position draw rule does occur automatically.
Occasions where the 50 move rule might apply do not happen very often. Yet, it should be a simple fix. Such a fix might prevent absurd games lasting thousands of moves!

Message: Threefold repetition rule is triggered automatically in GK, however the game will not end automatically, but the next person to move is given an option to claim the game a draw. Much like in normal OTB chess, the process is not automatic.

MaCa.

Message: A game I played with conditional moves ended automatically with the threefold repetition rule. Maybe it had something to do with the conditional moves. Conditional moves are active when you have a vacation flag. If the threefold repetition occurs while I am on vacation, then I won't be around to take the option. Perhaps that is why it was automatic. (But I could have taken the option when I got back, or perhaps my opponent took the option). I expected it to happen automatically and from my perspective it did.

Message: without analysis, i believe it to be mate in 3 from move 71...
71... Re4 (or anywhere past the king on the 4th row)
72. Kh2 Re1 (or whatever row you're on, move to the 1st, eg Ra1, or Rb1)
73. Kh3 Rh1#
it's entirely possible that both players believe it to be drawn, and have decided to continue playing the game until one of them dies. i can remember when i first started playing chess, i thought R vs K was a draw. the first key to breaking this silly belief is knowing what the mate looks like, then forcing your opponent into the position is child's play.
